PaudurHill (Khare) Raptor Migration Update 25 Oct – Day 40

In 24 Oct weather went very terrible in this part of country. It was a dark cloud whole day and visibility was very poor sometimes it was hard to see within 100m distance. The dark cloud brought rain and thunderstorm after 3:15 pm. Though it was terrible weather there was some flight especially we got mixed flock of Lesser Kestrels and Amur falcon in the morning hour. Few Steppe eagles were also flying. When it was around 3 pm few eagles were changed their mind and moving towards the northern Steppes.
Today weather was very pleasant here but sufficient cold breeze in the afternoon around 13 degree the night hours will be cooler; might be around 7 degree. The Lesser kestrels and Amur falcons are continuing in the watch site. Today we had a fewer eagles than I am expecting, this is due to the sudden change in local weather yesterday. There were few eagles in the morning and in the afternoon. Today dominating species was the Oriental Honey Buzzard (28) and second highest species was the Steppe Eagle (22). There was third Osprey of this season also. I am not sure was this species recorded in the earlier studies? Other species were similar as before but we had couple of very dark common buzzards Subspecies japonicas and probably one steppe buzzard. The OHB were also very variable – very very pale to very dark in colour. Swallows migration is going down here and we saw few Eurasian Crag Martins today in the site. Today two Dutch peoples were visiting our watch site to see the migration.   Jeff and Jim arrived in Kathmandu and they will come here tomorrow afternoon.
