PaudurHill (Khare) Raptor Migration Update 21 Oct – Day 36

Weather is not improving well. During the day time it was a thick and dark cloud very close to the ground and evening shower in both of the days 35 and 36 in the lookout. However the day 36 was going to be great day here due to two reasons. The first reason was--- I had great ornithologist Carol and Tim Inskipp for the whole day and second reason was the amazing species and good number of birds. Actually in this day we had three new species—Golden Eagle, Pallid Harrier and Lesser Kestrel.  As well we believe to have one Steppe Buzzard  (sub-species of Common Buzzard), there is not earlier record from Nepal. The number of birds were not as higher however we had a flock of Lesser Kestrel (17 birds) and a mix flock of Lesser Kestrel, Amur Falcon and Eurassian Hobby (18 birds). Therefore we had total of 29 Lesser Kestrels were migrating. I believe we need to have lot of patience and should be more optimistic about the time. During the migration count anything may happen anytime. So it would be good to have very early in the morning till dusk. In those days I am with Tim and Carol in the Hotel on the top of the Ridge behind the place usually we use to stay for migration count. Birds comes along this way and it is possible to watch them with the plate of breakfast as well. So tomorrow we have a plan to watch the birds before breakfast and with the breakfast as well. Tim and Carol will be down in Pokhara in the afternoon around 4:00 pm. Thanks for Tim and Carol for their visit in this part of Nepal.  I will try to keep posting the update …. Anything might happen here……….
