PaudurHill (Khare) Raptor Migration Update 15 Oct – Day 30

Paragliding near the look out
Today is the 30th day of migration study, so far 21 species of raptors have been recorded during the migration as well as 8 resident raptors species were recorded in Khare. Besides this around 18,000 passarine birds (swallows, swift, martin and needletail) were counted during the migration. Now it is about one third period of study has been completed but if we consider the number of raptors migrants it is just a beginning of our study.

Today’s new discovery was the Pallas’s Fish Eagle. In 1984 Bijlsma has been recorded the Haliaeetus spp of Eagle in 19 October, along the Pokhara-Muktinath track. Thus the time of arriving the Fish Eagle seems approximately same. Therefore I am very exciting about what I am getting during my study.
The weather seems changing rapidly because of everyday evening rain (Today also it is raining). The temperature in the morning (7 am) in the lookout was 14 degree C and continuous cold breeze from the south and dark cloud covers the surrounding ridge after 1 pm.
I am not seeing the Black Kite with one white primary feather since 3 days. On my careful observation it seems the black kites coming along the way stay around 1 or two days in the area (Surrounding village), foraging their and again start migration.
