PaudurHill (Nepal) Raptor Migration Update 28Sept – Day 13

Yellow-throated Martin

Dragonfly migrating in our watchsite; help for identification is welcome

Weather is gradually improving in this part of country. Mostly going to be sunny in the watch site however the Himalayan peaks can’t be seen in the afternoon due to thick cloud cover.  The mountain slopes were so hazy today and very difficult to identify the distant birds. We are getting continuous migration of Black kites, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Common Buzzard, Eurasian Hobby, Common Kestrels, Peregrine, Booted Eagle and other species which were seen before. Last two days are going to be exciting for Barn Swallows, Red-rumped Shallows and Dragonflies migration. We had more than 800 shallows and more than 400 Dragonflies for 27 and 28 Sept. All of these migrants will be continuous in the coming week.  I have no idea on dragonfly identification, help from anybody is welcome. Flocks of resident vulture are also seen from today. Today we had Himalayan vulture as a new arrivals. Wow pretty huge bird – about 12kg (26 pounds).
Today we also had three Yellow-throated Martins very close to the lookout. They were climbing over the roof of restaurant and one went inside from the small hole. The restaurant is still closed, I am not sure when they will open.
